听力原文: The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous buildings not only in Australia but also in the world. The Opera House was built by the New South Wales Government, which organized an international competition for a design for the complex. It was won in 1957 by the Danish architect, Jorn Utzon. The complex stands on Sydney Harbour. It took about 19 years and $102 million to plan, build, equip and furnish. The construction proceeded in three stages: stage 1 was the building of the foundation, stage 2 was the construction of the shell roofs, and stage 3 was the building of the interiors. After Jorn Utzon resigned from the project in February, 1966, when the exterior was almost complete, four Australian architects took over. The Opera House covers about 1.82 hectares. It is about 183 meters long and 118 meters wide. The highest shell roof is 67 meters above sea level. The roofs are covered with more than 1056000 Swedish-made ceramic tiles in white and cream. The roof weight totals 1758000 tons, supported on about 600 concrete columns. The Sydney Opera House has a concert hall, which seats 2690, an opera theatre, a drama theatre, a play house and a recording hall. The house also has an exhibition hall, five rehearsal studios, a reception hall, two restaurants, six theatre bars, sixty dressing rooms and so on. The complex was officially opened by her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ on October 20,1973. (33)
