Graceland was home of rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley. Located on a former farm outside of Memphis, Tennessee, Graceland got its name for Grace, a former owner's aunt. In his early 20s, Presley hoped to find quiet and privacy there and bought it 1957 when he was at the height of his popularity. His parents, wife, daughter, and some members of his extended family lived there at different times. Presley renovated the 23-room mansion to suit his tastes. He removed a chandelier; he added walls and gates, a racquetball court, and a TV room with three TVs; and most famously, he created a "jungle room" with an indoor waterfall. There were stereos in every room, a jukebox, and a piano. Reportedly, Presley's father had a swimming pool in his bedroom. When Presley died in 1977, he was buried near his parents and grandmother in the home's meditation garden. The home was opened to the public in 1982 and has become one of the most-visited private homes in the United States.
