Jimmy has been a postman for the last ten years. He loves to talk to his wife in the evenings about the people he delivers to. He tells her about Mrs. Mannes, the little old lady at number 24, who is always very unfriendly when he delivers her post. She has a son in Australia and a daughter in France so she often gets post. But one day when Jimmy rings the bell with a parcel for Mrs. Mannes from her daughter, there is no answer. Jimmy knows that the old lady never goes out (she even gets her food delivered from the local supermarket) so he starts to feel worried. He looks through the letterbox but sees nothing, and then he looks through the living room window and sees Mrs. Mannes lying on the floor. He goes around the house to check if the back door is open. It is, so he runs in and immediately rings for an ambulance. Mrs. Mannes gets to hospital in time. The doctor says that she had had a heart attack and if she had come to hospital any later she would not have survived. From that day on, Mrs. Mannes is very friendly and always gives Jimmy a bar of chocolate when he delivers a parcel.
