There was a big l ion who lived in a zoo. O ne day the lion was very hungry. When Bill, the keeper, gave him his dinner , he ate it up quickly. Quite by mistake he swallowed ( 吞下 )Bill. too. "It was time for lunch. and all the keepers in the zoo came except Bill . Where is B ill?" They wondered. "And why hasn't he come to lunch yet?" Suddenly there came a loud sound from the lion's house . They ran over to see what was happening. There on the ground lay the lion with his be lly ( 肚 子 ) plum p ( 鼓胀 ) , l ooking quite unhappy. The keepers looked at each other for a while , and then nearly at the same moment all of them realized what it meant. They got a bottle of liquid medicine with which to put the lion to sleep for an operation. And just at that moment the l ion's belly was cut open, Bill immediately jumped out to his feet. He looked quite all rig h t. After that they sewed up the cut in the lion's belly. When the power of the medicine was gone , t he lion woke up and looked quite happy.
