A fresh feed (stream FF ) of aqueous solution of 20 wt% is mixed with recycled filtrate solution (stream R ) at the ratio 1.16 kg-recycle/kg-fresh-feed. The mixture is then fed to an evaporator. The evaporator removes enough water to produce a liquid stream containing 60 wt% water which is then fed to a combined crystallizer-filtration (CF) unit. One output stream from the CF unit is wet cake while the other output stream is the filtrate solution. The filtrate solution was found to be 70 wt% water. All of the filtrate solution is recycled and mixed with fresh feed as already mentioned above. The wet cake consists of crystals and an aqueous solution of 30 wt% . The process is shown in figure below. Determine the mass fraction of crystals in the wet cake.
