The main body of the email is concise and clear. The sign-off is formal. “Sincerely” rather than “bw” is used. There is no slang, chatroom abbreviation, or emoticon used in the email. If your peer is requesting a reference paper: introduce briefly what his or her current research is and how it is related to that of the keynote speaker; explain why the reference is important to his or her current research; explain why he or she cannot get access to the reference paper. If your peer is asking for a research opportunity: explain why research is important for his or her goals; briefly demonstrate his or her qualifications which the keynote speaker may be looking for and attach a CV to the email; explain specifically why he or she is interested in that particular research group; ask to schedule a phone interview or an appointment with the keynote speaker.
