杀警越狱两人判死刑一人判无期 Two Members of Jailbreak Gang Facing Execution .Li Haiwei, Wang Damin and Gao Yulun stand trial at Harbin Intermediate People s Court yesterday. The three men were convicted of murdering a guard when they broke out of a detention house last year. Gao and Wang were sentenced to death, while Li received a life sentence. — Xinhua Two of the three convicts who killed a guard while escaping from a detention house in Harbin, capital of northeast China s Heilongjiang Province, last year have been sentenced to death, while their accomplice has been jailed for life. The Harbin Intermediate People ’ s Court ruled yesterday that Gao Yulun, 51, and Wang Damin, 36, masterminded the breakout from the Yanshou County Detention House and murder of guard Duan Baoren. They were both sentenced to death. Gao had been in detention pending the result of a previous death sentence handed to him, while Wang was being held on charges of vandalism, theft and intentional injury. The third member of the group, Li Haiwei, 30, was given a life sentence for his role in the escape. He had earlier been jailed on a charge of attempted murder. The court said it showed leniency toward Li as he had been persuaded to participate in the escape, but had not planned it. In a surveillance video shown in court, Duan is seen taking Gao from the cell he shared with the two other defendants to a duty room. With the cell unlocked, Wang and Li followed Gao, and the three men overpowered Duan, strangled him, stole his keys and fled the detention house. Over the following days, more than 10,000 police officers combed the surrounding area in a triple manhunt widely reported in the media. The three convicts were recaptured individually over a period of 10 days. While sentencing the three men, the court also highlighted security problems at the detention house, which it said “facilitated” the escape and murder. At the time of the incident, Duan was the only guard on duty, and the exits to the facility were unmanned. In May,2015, the county s deputy police chief, the head of the detention house and his deputy were tried for abuse of power and dereliction of duty. The verdict is pending.
