The hypothalamus contains many small nuclei & fiber tracts. The two major nuclei are the supraoptic & paraventricular nuclei. The cells in these two nuclei secrete the hormones vasopressin, oxytocin, antidiuretic hormone, & corticotrophin-releasing hormone. These hormones stimulate or inhibit the secretion of pituitary hormones.
