An ant ( 蚂蚁 ) fell in a river. She tried her best to reach the bank ( 岸 ), but she couldn‟t move at all. A bird threw her a piece of wood out of pity ( 怜悯 ). With it the ant reached the bank again. While she was having a rest and drying ( 使 ... 干 ) herself in the grass, she heard a man coming up. He was walking without shoes on his feet and carrying a gun in his hand. As soon as he saw the bird, he aimed at it and was ready to shoot ( 射击 ). But the ant bit him in one of his feet. At that moment the bird flew away immediately . The ant had saved the bird‟s life. The moral ( 道理 ) of the story is: We should help one another as much as we can. The small even can help the great.
