What makes people happy at work? There are many studies of (1). So it is interesting to see what makes workers happy. Focusing on social workers, Dr. John Graham, a professor of the University of Calgary and Micheal Shier of the University of Pennsylvania sent a survey out to 2,500 social workers in Alberta, Canada. Seven hundred people (2). From that group they took 13 people who (3) and then followed them closely through interviews about their lives at home and at work. Here's what they found made these people happy: 1. (4). The workers could provide "self-care " as they have the freedom to manage their (5). 2 A strong sense of (6) in their work because of support from their bosses and employers. 3 A feeling of being appreciated and valued, which often (7) their being included in decision-making. 4 (8). They want to try new things and expand out of their immediate area. 5 A pleasant (9) and good relationships with clients and colleagues. 6 Having (10), which might include training or teaching others, research, and policy development work. 7 Having a (11) to talk about their life, career decisions and their day-to-day job. Graham and Shier are currently researching whether these factors make other types of workers happy as well. They expected that these factors would be important to all workers.
