Tom has always spent more than 300 days in the UK and has therefore been UK resident. He gave up work on 5 April 2018 and on 18 May 2018 he set off on a round the world holiday. He did not return to the UK until 6 April 2019. Initially he spent 5 weeks in his second home in the USA but then did not spend more than 10 days in any other country. When he was round the world, he kept in touch with his wife (who is UK resident) and young children who remained in the home in the UK. Explain whether or not Tom is resident in the UK in the tax year 2018/19.
