Gilbert joined the Science Club last summer. One day he was handed a piece of paper, a block of wood and four wheels; he was told to go home and 1 them to “dad”. 2 , Gilbert’s father is not good at making things, 3 his mother decided that she would read the instruction and 4 Gilbert do the work. Several days later the block of wood was turned into a car. Then he and his mother went to a car race together. 5 when he got there, Gilbert found that his car was the only one that had not been made by a “father–son” partnership. The race began. One by one the cars were knocked out until it came to the final between Gilbert and Jimmy. 6 the race, Gilbert asked whether they could stop for a minute 7 he could make a wish. After a long minute, Gilbert said that he was ready. Gilbert’s car won at last. When the club manager came to ask him what he wished to win the game. Gilbert said that he had just wished that he wouldn’t cry if he lost. Children sometimes surprised adults. When Gilbert first saw the other cars, he didn’t cry out, “Not fair!” Gilbert didn’t wish for victory in the race. 8 he wished for not crying. 1) A. send B. return C. lend D. give 2) A. So B.
