Stunt Car Driving A thief runs from the bank. He jumps into a waiting car and roars off. People run after him, but it's too late. He's gotten away. Or has he? Look! Another car is coming toward the thief. The car is not stopping. Crash!!! Suddenly the two cars are in flames. There's been a terrible accident. Scenes like this in movies thrill people all the time. The accident looks real, but no one is really hurt. These scenes are done by actors called stunt people. They take the place of the regular actors in the dangerous parts. A director hires stunt people to appear in a film. First the stunt people plan what will happen. This is called rigging the gag. They go over each part of the scene many times. The timing is very important. It may take many days to plan a stunt. The stunt people then check all the equipment. Everything must be in perfect working order. Then it's time to begin. For a crash scene, the stunt people get into the cars. The cameras roll. At the moment of the crash, the two drivers jump from the cars. The stunt drivers are quick, and their escape does not show on the film. The shells of two other cars are then towed to the scene. These shells look just like the cars that crashed. Dummy drivers arc put into the cars. When the cars hit a trigger in the road, they burst into flames. These shells have no engines and they burn without exploding. The camera takes pictures of it all. l. Put these events in the order that they happened. What happened first? Write the number 1 on the line by that sentence. Then write the number 2 by the sentence that tells what happened next.
