Say whether the following statements are ture or false. Mary O'Donnel has found a lump in her breast. She talks about it with her gynaecologis Dr Lewis. Dr Lewis: OK amrs O'Donnell, you can put your clothes back on. Do you normally examine your breasts regularly? Mary: I try to remember to do it once a month. Dr Lewis:Well, a clinical examination isn't enough to diagnose cancer. You'll have to have further tests before we know for sure what the lump is. I see from the questionnaire you filled in earlier there is a history of breast cancer in your family. Mary:Yes, my grandmother died of breast cancer and my uncle had cancer...lung cancer. Dr Lewis:Well, I'll have to refer you to the breast clinic for tests. At the clinic they'll do an ultrasound scan or maybe a mammogram. Mary:What are they? Dr Lewis:They're nothing to worry about.Ultrasound is just a soundwave scanner like they use with pregnant women. And the mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. Mary:Oh right. Dr Lewis:The lump could just be a harmless cyst you know, they often are. Mary:What'll happen if it isn't Dr Lewis:Then they'll probably do a cytology test to make absolutely sure that they know what they are dealing with. Mary:What's cytology test? Dr Lewis:It's nothing to worry about, it won't hurt. They'll put a needle and s syringe into the breast and take a small sample of the lump for examination. Together, the tests are about 99.8 per cent correct, so we always do all the tests.
