The Golden Week is the name given to a seven-day national holiday, implemented in 1999 by the Chinese government, including the Spring Festival Golden Week, the Labor Day Golden Week and National Day Golden Week. The first Golden Week was 1999 National Day Golden Week holiday. The golden weeks are primarily intended to help expand the domestic tourism market and boost economic growth, as well as allowing people to make long-distance family visits. However, in 2008 the government shortened the Labor Day Golden Week holiday, usually occurring from May I to May 7, to three days.
